Bassirou

Bassirou Basse in unable to use his legs, but this didn’t hinder him to become a champion. His specialism are the 800 and 1500meters. He achieved many awards for his country, Senegal, among others a bronze medal at the African Games in Abuja 2003 and another bronze medal at the Games in Japhaf in 2004.
He should have participated at the Paralympics 2004 in Athens as well, but the things have changed and another participant was chosen at his place and he was dispatched. After all the years that he has dedicated to sports, without education or a job, the only way to survive for him is to panhandle.

Thanks to an encounter with Gianni Padlina and the generosity of Tashi Albertini Kaiser, Bassirou had the chance to become an instructor and coach for young people with a handicap.
Occasionally he returns to the athletic alley to keep fit and to offer his experiences to the new sportsmen. Most of all, he is the coach of a basket team and “if…” has donated new uniforms, and provided for the registration at the championship for handicapped. Meantime a van has been purchased for the athletes, that accompanies them to the games and to the coaching.

Bassirou, who is married with a handicapped girl and has two children, is able to provide for his family while doing the thing he likes more. His enthusiasm is transmitted to the other handicapped and they are motivated day by day to face their live with positivity.
"if..." is following the destiny of this athlete, of whom in short time a documentation will be realized, to show the living conditions that many young african disabled live in and to show how easy it is to change someones life with willingness, commitment and generosity.
